About the Author

I am B.A. Matthews, an amateur author currently working towards being published. I’ve always loved writing fiction, preferably fantasy or science fiction to anything else. I loved writing histories for my gaming characters. These histories would sometimes end up being more elaborate than the world saving game I was playing in.  Writing was just something I did, because I had to do it.  In 1997, I promised a few of my players that I would write up some ‘colour’ for the game I had just finished running for them.  They were an evil group and in writing their story (the destruction of a village of pirate scum), I left everyone feeling energized about the story, whether they were angry or pleased.

My husband was the reason I got into writing as a career though.  He saw how much I had not only enjoyed the writing, but how much I loved creating something that got people to feel an emotional response to the words I’d put on paper.  He asked why I didn’t try doing writing for a living and while I pushed the response away, he pushed it back.  To me, ‘Those Who Wrote Novels’ were different from the rest of us and I certainly couldn’t join their rants.  Other men would have given up, but fortunately for me, my husband didn’t.  He asked me the simple question that has confounded philosophy majors for time immemorial… Why Not?

Once I’d accepted that I could write, I started writing more often and worked at honing my craft on a novel about a character that I’d been thinking about.  That year, I wrote 98,000 words on a single novel.  Though I had finished that novel, I realized that I had a long way to go if I was going to try my hand at publishing. Since then, I’ve written another book and I’m currently at work on another two. I’m still improving that craft.  When I’m not writing (or talking about writing or working on learning more about the business and craft of writing), I can be found playing or running role-playing games, reading, or drawing. I adore anime, love animals and often surprise people with how fervent a believer I am in my religious choices.
