Global Warming and Introverted Aperture Science Turrets.. Oh My!
Posted on Sunday, May 30th, 2010Welcome back! Today, I want to speak to you about a topic close to my heart… Global Warming. See what Global Warming, while being inaptly named, actually means is Weather Instability on a Global Level, not that the Globe is heating (although that is a side effect, within a degree or two as well). This weather instability is in large part shown in recent weather patterns such as larger, more powerful storms and of course, in odd weather occurrences around the globe.
Whether this pattern is caused by humans or a natural part of our planets evolution, isn’t really my debate today. What I’d like to talk about is how it’s affecting me, personally.
I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and I’ve lived here all my life. When I was a child, I remember that the snowfall season in Calgary started right around Halloween. That old ‘joke’ about Canadians having to wear snow pants and a winter jacket over our Halloween costumes wasn’t a joke for us; it was a way of life. The last serious snowfall of the season usually occurred just after Easter, around mid to late April. Nowadays the season starts in mid-December and tends to end in late March-early April.
Why does this matter at all? Well, because I woke yesterday (May 29, 2010) and we had a blanket of snow an inch or so thick covering the world outside my window. I got a few pictures for you, but they’re all too big to show here. I’ll start a photobucket account, if anyone wants to see pictures.
Even I, who love snow and warm-ish weather like this (warm-ish being between -5 Celsius and 2 Celsius), would love to have some warmer weather now. After all, I bought new sandals just last Friday. On the other hand, I must admit, I never seem to write as well when it’s not snowing. I always feel a sense of peace with the snow that just lets me get into that groove when it is.
But enough about me and my snow… I’d like to thank Wytchskate for her great comments about my story ‘The Tale of Vardysil’, and let you know that my next story upload will probably be on Monday or Tuesday. If I finish my editing, I’ll have a full chapter for you on an online book that I’m writing called (tentatively) Dual Melodies.
I had a great interesting meet-up today with the Calgary Nanowrimo group. We meet once a month to hang out, chat with those that we normally only see during November and, of course, Write.
In particular, this time I started writing a great little story about Aperture Science and an introverted turret… I’ll try to finish it this week and post it up, next week perhaps.
Let me know what you thinking about this week. Or perhaps you could let me know what you think about me getting snow this week. Also, if you want to see the pictures of snow outside my house! Either way, I’ll chat with you next time!
